LFA 140 + Moraes Vs Johnson 2 + Weekly MMA Report

The last weekend’s UFC 278 PPV was a true banger, and we’ve seen one of the greatest upsets in the history of this sport. Leon Edwards was down on the scorecards in the fifth and final round when he unloaded a powerful left high kick and turned the lights out on the reigning defending 170-pound champ Kamaru Usman to earn his first-ever UFC belt.

The welterweight class has an English king at the moment. Leon also banked an extra 50k for the amazing fifth-round head kick knockout.

Victor Altamirano got his first-ever Performance of the Night bonus by destroying Daniel Lacerda with a barrage of ground and pound shots in the first.

The Fight of the Night bonus was given to Luke Rockhold and Paulo Costa, who took part in an amazing three-round bloody and battered war. Yet, the fight will be remembered forever by another very interesting detail. Rockhold rubbed his blood on Costa in the final round of their clash.

This weekend, there is no UFC event. But don’t be sad, we might still enjoy some news and events. First of all, two high-profile bouts are set – Tony Ferguson vs Li Jingliang –

and Dan Hooker vs Claudio Puelles –

I gave you official predictions on both of them, and, unfortunately, this might be the end of Tony Ferguson’s career. It seems the UFC dislikes him, I just don’t know why. Also, don’t forget a female 115-pound title scrap between Carla Esparza and Weili Zhang –

This could be great high-paced title combat after Esparza vs Namajunas snoozefest.

LFA 140 will take place this weekend in New Town, North Dakota, United States, and you can watch it at UFC on Fight Pass. The main event between Rizvan Abuev and Carlos Mota draws a lot of attention. You can take a look at the whole fight card here.

LFA140 Mota vs Abuev

Carlos Mota (7-1) took part in many high-level wars, turning the lights out on many fighters, and nearly defeated a UFC flyweight, Charles Johnson. This guy is powerful and he’s not gonna gas, don’t doubt his strength and cardio, he likes elevation training sessions for a reason!

Rizvan Abuev (12-3) is a powerful pressure fighter with a tremendous ground game, but many say he’s a very one-sided Octagon warrior. Rizvan’s wrestling rocks thanks to his enormous levels of strength. When Rizvan drags the fight to the canvas, he wins, but Mota’s takedown defense is very good, this could be a tough matchup for Abuev.

Prediction: Mota to win (-250)

But the most eye-catching combat this weekend happens at ONE FC, where the former eleven-time UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson meets Adriano Moraes for the second time. Moraes destroyed him in their first rematch via knees to the head of the grounded opponent (legal in ONE FC), so Johnson will be looking for revenge. More info is available here.

Nobody has ever defeated “Mighty Mouse” two times in a row. If Adriano wins again, he’ll write a page in MMA history.

Prediction: Johnson to win

Check my predictions for the upcoming main card (ONE FC mixed Muay Thai with MMA bouts, don’t forget that).

There is no UFC event this week, but don’t despair – there are tons of top-notch MMA action all around the globe!
