UFC Fight Night 224 “Dern Vs Hill” + Weekly MMA News
UFC Charlotte was one of the most entertaining cards of the year. There were many spectacular battles and finishes.
UFC Charlotte Look Back
The main event ended in the first round – Jailton Almeida stopped Jairzinho Rozenstruik with a textbook rear-naked choke (Dana handed an extra 50k to the Brazilian for this amazing finish). The UFC handed out five post-fight bonuses after Saturday’s card, including one to Bryan Battle, who missed the scale the day before but destroyed Gabe Green with a violent counterpunch.

Let’s discuss the other 3 POTN bonuses now. Ian Garry rocked Daniel Rodriguez with a big right high kick, then finished the bout with a violent barrage of GNP shots. Surprisingly, 42-year-old Matt Brown floored Court McGee with a vicious punch in the first round. Carlos Ulberg destroyed Ihor Potieria with a brutal sneaky hook. It was a card to remember!

UFC Fight Night 224
This weekend, UFC travels back to Vegas for another fight card in UFC Apex. It is headlined by the female strawweight bout between BJJ black belt Mackenzie Dern and one of the toughest 115ers the world has ever seen, Angela Hill. This battle was set for UFC Charlotte, but it was moved because the UFC this weekend suffered a big blow due to the main event cancellation.

Mackenzie Dern is the former ADCC champion and one of the best ground fighters in the division. Her takedowns are fair, but her trademark is submission switches. You don’t want Mackenzie on your back, you’ll have a very weak chance of escaping! Dern significantly improved her boxing, which was visible in her outing against Virna Jandiroba. Now she can fight on her feet and off her back.
Angela Hill is a tactical fighter with great combos and excellent defense. Hill took part in many decision wars in her life, her cardio is on point. Yet, she has never faced such a dangerous submission specialist. If “Angie” can keep the fight standing, she could win, but she mustn’t make a single mistake.
Prediction: over 1.5 rounds or Hill to win
The co-main event brings one of the hardest fights to predict – Edmen Shahbazyan meets Anthony Hernandez. Shahbazyan came as an undefeated prospect into the UFC, but he suffered back-to-back losses to Derek Brunson, Jack Hermansson, and Nassourdine Imavov. Recently, Edmen bounced back with a win over Dalcha Lungiambula. He is one of the most unpredictable 185ers.
Anthony Hernandez is another unpredictable fighter. His submission victory over BJJ specialist Rodolfo Vieira is one of the greatest upsets in the history of the UFC. Hernandez is an all-around fighter with great punches, lovely sweeps and transitions, and great combos. He is very dangerous inside the pocket. This fight is such a pick’em.
Prediction: over 1.5 rounds
