UFC 293 ‘Adesanya vs. Strickland’ + Weekly MMA Report

UFC Paris was another nice card to watch. French fighters scored six victories in 7 bouts, which shows that the MMA Factory Paris coach Fernand Lopes is doing a great job. Yes, many combats went to judges’ scorecards, but there were no boring fights.

UFC Paris Awards

Ciryl Gane smoked out Serghei Spivac in the main event of the evening. The French Muay Thai specialist ended the fight via second-round TKO for the Performance of the Night award. The second POTN went into the hands of the former Cage Warriors champ Morgan Charriere, who destroyed Manolo Zecchini in the early stages of the bout.

The Fight of the Night bonus was given to Benoit St-Denis and Thiago Moises, who took part in a great war, which ended in Benoit’s TKO victory.

UFC 293 Announcement

After an event in Europe, the UFC travels to “The Land Down Under” for another very promising pay-per-view event. The bouts will take place in Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

This time, the show is headlined by a very promising 185-pound scrap between footwork expert, former kickboxing champ Israel Adesanya, and the most underrated trash-talker in the division, Sean Strickland.

The main event of the evening will probably turn into a very technical fight. Sean Strickland likes to deliver counter-shots, while Israel Adesanya is known for a very slow start, feinting, and tricky strikes. This fight might be pretty boring to watch, and it could go all the way. Yet, Strickland was knocked out by Alex Pereira in the past, so his chin is a bit questionable.

Strickland’s big right hand could create some damage. Yet, Adesanya’s kicks are very good, so he might piece Sean Strickland up from long-range. Adesanya’s angling is awesome, and he switches stances, which might lead to additional problems for Sean.

Prediction: Over 2.5 rounds

The co-main is a banger, as heavy-handed kickboxer Tai Tuivasa meets dangerous Karateka Alexander Volkov. Both fighters are known for big one-punch knockouts, so you can expect fireworks here. Tuivasa will try to fight inside the pocket, while Volkov has to stay away from close-range bombs. One way or another, this will hardly last for three rounds.

Tai Tuivasa turned the lights out on some very dangerous heavyweight names, but he’s a pretty reckless fighter. Tuivasa keeps his hands down when attacking, so his chin remains wide open. Volkov could knock him out cold with a big hook if he hits the sweet spot.

Prediction: The fight will not go the distance
